Set of Four Mid Century Hand-Coloured Original Botanical Etchings, Swiss School
A delightful and cohesive suite of four hand-coloured etchings depicting European wildflowers, each presented in its original matching cream-painted woven frame. The four subjects: summer meadow with poppies, cornflowers and wheat; buttercups with forget-me-nots and orange-tip butterfly; harebells with red campion; and rudbeckia with bellflowers and pink alpine blooms, together form a complete botanical sequence moving through the wildflower year.
Each print is executed as an intaglio etching with fine, assured draughtsmanship and subsequently hand-coloured with watercolour, a technique that gives each impression its distinctive warmth and intimacy. Plate marks are visible in the images, consistent with original etching production. Each print carries two pencil signatures below the image: a publisher's or printer's mark to the lower left ("g. Trod") and an artist's signature to the lower right, varying across the set.
The subjects, colouring palette, and production quality are characteristic of the decorative botanical etching tradition of Germany, Austria or Switzerland in the Mid-20th Century.
Condition: Generally good. Some light toning and minor foxing to the oldest print (poppies/cornflowers), consistent with age; remaining three prints fresh and bright. Frames intact and presentable.
